A competency hearing for Catherine Ashley Hoggle, who is charged with murdering her two young children, will continue on Nov. 23.
Her children, Sarah and Jacob Hoggle, were last seen in her care in 2014. They were two and three years old at the time of their disappearance.
On Thursday, the children’s father, Troy Turner, and a medical expert testified and Hoggle briefly answered some questions from Montgomery County Court Judge James Bonifant.
If Hoggle is found not competent to stand trial by Dec. 1, the murder charge has to be dropped. Under Maryland law, charges must be dropped if a defendant is still considered incompetent to stand trial for five years. However, she still could be held in confinement.
Hoggle has been committed to the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center and has been receiving treatment since her arrest.
