The Montgomery County Department of Police’s Police-Private Security Camera Incentive Program now covers all addresses in Montgomery County, assisting the community in installing security cameras in their residences and businesses.
Here’s how it works.
- The applicant purchases the camera first, then applies for reimbursement.
- Provide proof of purchase of an applicable security camera purchased on or after November 15, 2023. Cameras purchased before November 15, 2023, are not eligible.
- Provide make, model, and serial number of the security camera.
- If the security camera system is installed by a business with a valid Business License that is engaged in the installation of security systems, the business shall certify the installation of the camera system at the property, including photographic evidence.
- If the security camera system is installed by the property owner, business owner, or another person without a valid Business License, an officer from the applicable district station will conduct an on-site visit to verify the installation of the security camera.
- Upon the determination that an Applicant has applied and complied with all the requirements, and subject to the availability of funds, the applicable amount shall be provided to the Applicant from the Montgomery County Government Department of Finance
- Process takes about 30 days
- The rebate is for the cost of the camera, not to exceed $250. Other costs, such as installation, accessories, recording subscription, and video storage, are not covered.
- Security camera systems shall be installed on the exterior of the building.
Application forms can be filled out on the website. Regulations limit applicants to one security camera per qualifying residence and five security cameras per qualifying business or nonprofit organization address.
