As the Maryland Homeowners’ Property Tax Credit Program Oct. 1 deadline looms, eligible residents are encouraged to apply. Those who qualify will get more than $1,000 each, according to local and state leaders.
“We had gone ahead and passed legislation that was signed into law – that would return specifically to Montgomery County residents more than $7 million,” said Maryland State Senator Craig Tucker.
Senator Tucker and Maryland House of Delegates member Alfred Carr joined County Executive Marc Elrich during his virtual media briefing last week to discuss how additional funds became available for eligible residents.
Officials believe some people aren’t aware of the available funds, so they want to get the word out.
Senator Tucker says local, and state officials teamed up and found an error where the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation calculated refunds for Montgomery County and Baltimore City and realized that they were “short-changing” residents by “tens of millions of dollars”.
