Montgomery County is under a Hyperthermia Alert as well as a Heat Advisory on Friday.
The county activated a Hyperthermia Alert for extreme heat from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Emergency Management and Homeland Security tells residents to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
Heat safety tips from the county include staying indoors whenever possible. Monitor those at greatest risk of heat-related illness including infants and children up to four years old and those 65 years old and above. Residents are urged to never leave pets, young children or elderly people in a car for any amount of time even with an open window.
Additionally, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Heat Advisory for central and southeast areas of the county from noon to 8:00 p.m. According to NWS, heat index values will range close to 110 degrees in the Washington Metro/Baltimore areas. Scattered storms are forecast this afternoon.
