Latest Work Planned Between Shady Grove Road and Georgia Avenue
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is in the process of upgrading the tolling system on the Intercounty Connector (ICC). A section of the ICC in Montgomery County is scheduled to be closed Feb. 7-10 and Feb. 14-17.
The tolling hardware and software at all the toll facilities will be replaced as part of the upgrades.
Friday, Feb. 7 at 9 p.m. to Monday, Feb. 10 at 5 a.m. Detour
Eastbound traffic on the ICC will be detoured at Shady Grove Road. The detour rout will direct drivers south on Shady Grove Road to south on Frederick Road (MD 355), to East Gude Drive, to east on Norbeck Road and north on Georgia Avenue (MD 97) back to eastbound ICC (MD 200).
Friday, Feb. 14 at 9 p.m. to Monday, Feb. 17 at 5 a.m. Detour
Westbound traffic on the ICC will be detoured at Georgia Avenue (MD 97). The detour route will direct drivers south on Georgia Avenue (MD 97) to west on Norbeck Road, to East Guede Drive, to north on Frederick Road (MD 355 and north on Shady Grove Road back to westbound ICC (MD 200)
The MDTA recommends drivers traveling between I-370 and I-95 to consider taking I-495 rather than the ICC when detours are in effect.
The temporary detours are needed due to the amount of equipment and work crews involved and to help ensure the safety of workers and drivers.
Additional work will be required and the MDTA will schedule additional work on the tolling system to be done during off-peak hours, including weekends and overnight.
MDTA plans to have crews working on overhead tolling facility known as a gantry in each direction of the ICC per weekend. MDTA will issue additional traffic advisories as work progresses and schedules are finalized. Work will be scheduled during off-peak hours, including weekends and overnight.
