Impaired Driver Arrested After Crashing Into Police Cruiser

Montgomery County police arrested an impaired driver early Saturday, Jan. 11, after he collided with a parked police cruiser.

At approximately 2:32 a.m. on Jan. 11, 6th District officers were assisting Maryland State Police with a serious crash near I-270 and I-370. An officer had parked his cruiser with emergency lights activated, blocking several lanes to ensure safety during the investigation.

Shortly after, a black Acura entered the area and struck the rear of the police cruiser, causing significant damage. No officers were injured in the collision.

Officers approached the Acura and observed the driver displaying signs of impairment. Members of the Holiday Alcohol Task Force arrived and conducted an investigation. The driver failed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).

The driver was taken to a Montgomery County police station but refused to take an Intoximeter test after being informed of his rights. He was charged with DUI and other traffic offenses before being released from custody.
