Investigations Ongoing After Stabbing Victim Found at Scene of Fire in Silver Spring

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) is investigating a fire from Saturday night that caused an estimated $1 million in damages according to officials. MCFRS and Montgomery County Department of Police (MCP) responded to a fire at the Casa Furniture store on Flower Avenue in Silver Spring Saturday at approximately 11:15 p.m. At the scene, fire rescues and officers found a woman with stab wounds outside of the store, according to MCFRS Chief Public Information Officer Pete Piringer. The woman was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, according to officials.

It is unknown if the injured woman and the fire at Casa Furniture are connected.

Besides the injured woman, two adults residing in the basement were displaced and assisted by the Red Cross, according to MCFRS Assistant Chief Public Information Officer David Pazos. There were no fire injuries, according to Piringer.

Piringer said the fire’s area of origin was the storage room. The cause is under investigation but several ignition sequence theories are plausible, according to Piringer.

The investigation for both situations is ongoing.
