Both Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando announced Monday they support Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks to succeed U.S. Senator Ben Cardin.
Jawando, who dropped out of the race Oct. 20, called Alsobrooks “a stellar candidate in the race.”
U.S. Rep. David Trone (D-6th) also is running on the Democratic ticket. After learning Jawando was no longer a candidate, Trone released this statement.
“I have had the great honor of knowing Will and Michele Jawando and their family for almost a decade. Will is a remarkable public servant with a progressive vision and powerful voice. And he gets things done. While his Senate campaign is coming to an end, I know that he’ll continue to be a leader in the fight to expand educational opportunities, ensure that workers have a living wage, and fix our broken criminal justice system. I fully support Will’s fight to create a more just society for all Marylanders, and we will work side by side to make that a reality.”
Other Democrats who have filed for Cardin’s seat are Marcellus Crews of Prince George’s County, Juan Dominguez of Anne Arundel County, Brian Frydenborg of Silver Spring, Steven Henry Seuferer of Montgomery Village and Andrew Jaye Wildman of Carroll County.
Running on the Republican ticket are Ray Bly of Howard County and Lorie Friend of Garrett County.
Today, I am proud to announce my endorsement of County Executive Angela Alsobrooks to be Maryland’s next United States Senator! Angela is a fighter. Angela is a leader. Angela is a public servant in every beautiful sense of that phrase. pic.twitter.com/xDu6mhY4xi

When I ended my campaign last week, I was steadfast in my resolve because I knew there remained a stellar candidate in the race who would represent our state with grace, dignity, and honor.
Angela is that candidate. pic.twitter.com/iZ0saLSBFs
