Council Vice President Will Jawando will introduce a bill Tuesday to create hiring preference within the Montgomery County government for laid off government workers.

According to a press release, the bill marks a response to the loss of jobs by an estimated 1,000 federal workers who reside in the county.

The aim of legislation will be to provide former federal workers with an opportunity to continue a career in public service and help relieve their current economic insecurity.

Joining Jawando on the proposal are Councilmembers Andrew Friedson, Kristin Mink, Laurie-Anne Sayles, and Marilyn Balcombe along with Council President Kate Stewart.

The bill will also be sponsored by WorkForce Montgomery according to the release.
