Following Tuesday’s Maryland primary election, incumbent John McCarthy maintains a significant lead in the Montgomery County State’s Attorney race.
On Friday, MyMCM sat down with McCarthy to discuss his time in office thus far and his goals as Montgomery County’s top prosecutor if he is reelected.
According to unofficial results by the Maryland Board of Elections up to this point, McCarthy has received 33,277 votes, or 48.83%, based on early voting, primary day voting and some mail-in ballots. Bernice Mireku-North has received 14,181 votes (20.81%), Perry Paylor has 10,886 (15.97%) and Tom DeGonia has 9,805 (14.39%).
The numbers are not final. Mail-in ballot counting began Thursday and results are not expected for about two weeks.
McCarthy was first elected in 2006. If reelected, he would serve his fifth term. There were no Republican candidates for Montgomery County State’s Attorney in the primary.
