Welcome to our Weekend Roundup of events in Montgomery County. Here are nine things to do this weekend, July 21-23.
Friday, July 21
D.C. South Asian Music Festival: D.C. South Asian Arts Council inc. (DCSAACI), a local non-profit, is hosting a music festival from July 21-23 at Wheaton High School. The event will celebrate South Asian music and culture in the area. Sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan will be performing at 8 p.m. on Friday. There will be a bazaar with food, clothes, jewelry and more available at the event. Visitors can purchase tickets for individual performances or by day passes for Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are for sale through the DCSAACI website.
Astronomical Observatory Nights at Montgomery College: Montgomery College’s Astronomical Observatory is hosting a guest night. They will provide telescopes to learn about and observe visible objects in the night sky with Astronomy faculty. Visitors are to meet in Science Center room 406 from which the group will go up to the roof. The event is open to all ages, however children under five are not allowed on the roof per campus policy. The event and parking is free, reservations are required.
Bethesda Summer Concerts: Join Bethesda Urban Partnership for their live music nights at The Streetry at the Norfolk and St. Elmo avenues. This weekend local singer, songwriter and bassist, Eric Scott, will perform at 6 p.m.
Saturday, July 22
Kingsbury Orchard Farm Tour: Visit Kingsbury Orchard in Dickerson as part of Montgomery County’s 34th annual Farm Tour. You can visit Kingsbury as part of the Farms-2-Feast self-driving tour. Kingsbury Orchard grows a variety of fruit, they specialize in white peaches and nectarines and some peach varieties grown there exclusively. You can also check their website to see what varieties should be the most ripe at the time of your visit.
Summer Dinner Theater Montgomery College: Montgomery College is putting on “Something Rotten” through July 30 at the Rockville Campus in the Theatre Arts Building. They will provide a full buffet provided by Metz Catering. Tickets, show schedules, menu and additional details can be found on the Montgomery College website.
Live Music at Washington Rockville Elks Lodge: Annapolis based Scorpion Rose and Rockville based Audio Fuel are performing at Washington Rockville Elks Lodge this Saturday, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. There will be a $10 cover fee for all over 12 years old and there will be food and beverage for purchase.
Sunday, July 23
Bluegrass Jam at Sandy Spring Museum: Bring your instrument to Sandy Spring museum to join the bluegrass jam. These jams are held on the fourth Sunday of each month from 2-4 p.m. The event will take place in the Dr. Bird Room of the museum. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Registration is required and available through the museum website. The event is $5 for non museum members and free to museum members.
“Summer Enchantment” Concert at Inter-Faith Chapel: Baltimore Musicales, a non-profit dedicated to preserving the art of sing recital, is hosting a concert at the Inter-faith Chapel in Silver Spring. Six of Baltimore Musicales artists will perform music from a variety of classic musicals, 3:30 p.m -5 p.m. There will be a reception with the performers after the show. Tickets are available through the Baltimore Musicales website.
Montgomery County Farm Tour and Harvest Sale: Join Montgomery County 34th annual farm tour and harvest sale July 22-23. This year the county is working with 21 different local farms to hold a variety of events to showcase Montgomery county’s agricultural reserves. Three different curated self-driving tours guide visitors through the different farms whether you’re looking to sample local wines and beers, curate your own farm to table experience or take a scenic car ride with your family.
