Friday, June 14

Nature Cart at Wheaton Regional Park: Montgomery Parks brings the Brookside Nature Center to Wheaton Regional Park Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors are invited to stop by the cart to try fun activities, interact with natural objects, and grab a map of the park. Note: this is weather dependent, call the Nature Center to confirm. All ages, especially children. Free. Wheaton Regional Park is located at 2000 Shorefield Rd in Wheaton. Summer Music Series: The Heights Food Hall’s summer music series continues Friday at 5 p.m. with guitarist David Weaver and his band. Enjoy the outdoor concert on the patio at The Heights with oversized board games, balloons, food, and fun for all ages. Free. No purchase or RSVP required. Saturday, June 15

Josiah Henson Birthday Celebration: Montgomery Parks celebrates the birthday of abolitionist Josiah Henson on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Josiah Henson Museum and Park. Henson’s Life story takes center stage during an afternoon of free activities at the site of the former plantation where Henson was enslaved. The Visitor Center and the historic Riley-Bolten house will be open to guests. Visitors will have the chance to play lawn games and learn about the archaeological work at the site. Crafts and concessions will be available. There will also be a series of scheduled activities. The Josiah Henson Museum and Park are located at 11410 Old Georgetown Rd. in North Bethesda. Paws in the Park: Gaithersburg’s 23rd annual Paws in the Park dog walk and festival takes place Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Dogs and dog lovers can expect an afternoon of outdoor fun activities including vendors, food, music, a K9 agility competition course, games for both people and dogs, and of course the dog walk. Proceeds from the event will help Montgomery County Humane Society assist homeless animals and pets in need. Cost is $20 per person if purchased online. On-site registration is $25 per person. ‘Paws in the Park’ Dog Walk & Festival Comes to Fairgrounds

Juneteenth: The county’s 27th annual Juneteenth celebration takes place Saturday and includes activities for the whole family. There will be dance performances, art exhibits, film screenings, book talks, and more. The festival takes place from noon to 10 p.m. at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, 12901 Town Commons Dr. Some parking is available. Learn more.

Sunday, June 16

Cultural Heritage Concert Series: The county hosts a series of four concerts during June to promote an understanding of diverse cultures. Today’s concert features internationally known steelpan performer Josanne Francis and takes place at the Plum Gar Community Recreation Center on Sunday, June 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. Free and appropriate for all ages. Father’s Day BNC Hike: The BNC Hideout in Gaithersburg hosts a Father’s Day hiking adventure in Harpers Ferry Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Meet at the BNC Hideout located at 424 N. Frederick Ave. Suite 6a for a tea and protein smoothie before the hike. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and protein snacks for the hike. Free, but encouraged to reserve a spot online here.

ISSF Funkateers Youth All Style Battle: The International Soul Society Festival with Urban Artistry hosts a dance competition Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Marian Fryer Town Plaza in Wheaton. Master of Ceremonies Norman Cunningham along with DJ Montahje will keep things moving. The competition starts with a youth battle from 1 to 2:30 p.m. followed by a Father’s Day Daddy Dance-Off from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Showcases follow from 3 to 4 p.m. Judges Hikari, Ro, and Garry will determine the 1st and 2nd prize winners.
