Friday, June 21
Cars & Cones: The Family Room in Laytonsville is more than just a local store, it is a gathering place with events planned throughout the year. Every Friday night the Family Room hosts the Cars & Cones event. There will be classic cars, bikes and trucks to see while enjoying ice cream and oldies music from 5 to 9 p.m. Free. Summer Dinner Theater Montgomery College: Montgomery College is putting on “Cabaret” through June 23 at the Rockville Campus in the Theatre Arts Building. They will provide a full buffet featuring locally grown produce and hot entrees. Tickets cost $69. Tickets, show schedules, menu and additional details can be found on the Montgomery College website.
Live in Your Truth Nights: LIYT Nights is a free, open-to-the-public event featuring a mix of live entertainment, an artists’ pop-up, an adult beverage garden, STI/health screenings, and health/awareness/education resources. The second half of LIYT Nights is Drag Duels, a Drag lip-sync competition, with the finale taking place during MoCo Pride In The Plaza. Saturday, June 22
Rockville’s Global Bites Festival: Not only will local restaurants have global dishes available for purchase, the festival includes live performances and music, demonstrations, dances, cultural exhibits, and interactive activities for all ages Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival is located in Rockville Town Square. Pride Family Day: Glen Echo Park in collaboration with Councilmember Evan Glass host the 4th annual Pride Family Park. Celebrate Pride Month with hands-on arts and crafts and temporary tatoos, free carousel rides, live music, rainbow treats, and special backdrop for family photos. Suggested donation of $10 is appreciated. The event will take place Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Glen Echo Park is located at 7300 MacArthur Blvd. in Glen Echo. Find more information.
Caribbean-American Heritage and Resource Fair: Cultures from Haiti, Panama, Dominican Republic, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia and Grenada will be featured at the event on Saturday, June 22 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Marian Fryer Town Plaza. There will be a diverse array of foods, entertainment, culture, hands-on learning and resources. Free. Held rain or shine. The Marian Fryer Town Plaza is located at 2424 Reedie Drive in Wheaton. Art Exhibit Reception: Riverworks Art Center hosts an opening reception for the “Bottles & Bouquets” exhibit Sunday from 4-6 p.m. The exhibit by Pauline Rakis of acrylic paint and collage explores the symbolic and visual relationships between bottles and cut flowers. Meet Rakis, explore the exhibit, and enjoy complimentary soft drinks and snacks; beer and wine available for purchase. Free. RSVP here. Scandinavian Midsummer Celebration: Celebrate Scandinavian Midsummer with the American Scandinavian Association, Drott Lodge, Finlandia Foundation NCC and SWEA DC Sunday, June 23 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Carderock Picnic Pavilion. Activities to include decorating the Maypole, creating traditional flower crown, singing and dancing to live music, and Midsummer games. Bring your own picnic and drinks. Free, but tickets required. ISSF Transformation Open Style Urban Dance Battle: The International Soul Society Festival with Urban Artistry hosts a dance competition Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Westfield Wheaton Mall (in front of Macy’s on the first floor). The battle will begin with a preliminary round, in which each participant will showcase one (1) minute for the judges; eight to sixteen dancers (depending on the number of contestants) will be chosen to advance to the 1 v 1 battles.
