Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of entertainment in Montgomery County. Here are 9 things to do this weekend, June 7-9.

Friday, June 7

Summer Concert Series: The free outdoor concerts take place in the Rockville Town Square on Friday nights from now through September. Today, the I&I Riddim reggae band performs from 6 – 9 p.m. The splash pads are open daily. For more information, click here.

BlackRock Movie Nights: The BlackRock Center for the Arts screens ‘E.T. The Extra Terrestrial’ on the front lawn at 8 p.m. Free. Bring a blanket or some lawn chairs for an evening under the stars. The center is located in Germantown at 12901 Town Commons Drive. For more information, click here.

June Art Exhibit: Artists & Makers Studios hosts ‘Travels and Techniques’ by artist Hampton R. Olfus, Jr. during June. The opening reception takes place Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. On Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. the artist will hold a Meet the Artist session.  Artists & Makers Studios are located at 11810 Parklawn Drive, Suite 210 in Rockville. Saturday, June 8

Cultural Heritage Concert Series: The county hosts a series of four concerts during June to promote an understanding of diverse cultures. Today’s concert features performing artists Carl Malcolm and Positive Vibration Reggae Band and takes place at the Gwendolyn E. Coffield Community Recreation Center Saturday, June 8 at noon Free and appropriate for all ages. The recreation center is located at 2450 Lyttonsville Road in Silver Spring. Artisans Market:  The market at Black Rock Center for the Arts takes place this month on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. outdoors on the lawn. Explore hand crafted jewelry, candles, wood works and more at this monthly market. Free and appropriate for all ages. Stay or return for the Music on the Lawn event from 5 to 10 p.m. with DJ Divine. Unveiling of the Oakley Cabin Augmented Reality Experience: Discover a new way to experience African American history at the Unveiling Celebration of the Augmented Reality (AR) Experiences at Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be provided for this family-friendly free event. Visitors will use their mobile phones to see AR videos, explore 3D manipulable models, and have interactive digital experiences to learn about the history of Oakley Cabin and lives of the freed Black families who lived there in the reconstruction period following Maryland’s emancipation in 1864. Sunday, June 9

Takoma Park Pride Day: Takoma celebrates the LGBTQ+ community with a Kids’ Pride Parade and Street Fair on Laurel Avenue. The parade starts at 201 Ethan Allen Avenue on Sunday at 10 a.m. and ends on Laurel Avenue. The Street Fair includes free face painting, Pride photo board, opportunity to share messages of Pride with chalk on Laurel Avenue, community tables, and food vendors. Drag queen Tara Hoot visits from noon to 2 p.m. Free. For more information, click here.

MSO Youth Concerto Winners Concert & Juneteenth Celebration: The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra performs Sunday at Sligo Seventh-Day Adventist Church from 3-5 p.m. The youth concerto competition winners will be announces. Hungerford 250! Commemoration in Rockville: Peerless Rockville presents three lectures on local colonial and revolutionary war history Sunday from 1-4:30 p.m. June 11 marks the 250th anniversary of the Hungerford Resolves, when 10 men from the area that became Montgomery County signed a set of historic agreements at Hungerford’s Tavern, in sympathy with the blockaded City of Boston following the Boston Tea party.
