Katie Ledecky’s remarkable 13-year winning streak in the 800 meter freestyle is over. 17 year-old Summer McIntosh from Canada beat Ledecky in the finals of the 800 meters Southern Zone South Sectional Championships in Orlando on Thursday.
McIntosh’s winning time of 8:11:39 – the second fastest in history – bested Ledecky by six seconds.
Ledecky, 26, had not lost in her signature event since she was 13 years old in 2010. During that span, Ledecky had won 29 straight finals in the 800m freestyle.
Katie Ledecky hadn't lost the 800 freestyle in 13 years and it took one of the best swimmers on the planet, Summer McIntosh, dropping an 8:11.39 (to become the second-fastest performer in history) to take her out.
Might be THE most impressive winning streak in swimming history. pic.twitter.com/ZgxM5x17bD
