Katie Ledecky blew away the field in the prelims of her signature event, the 1500 meter freestyle, Tuesday, coasting to a first place finish.
The prelim swim went viral on social media as Ledecky won her heat by more than 17 seconds.

Ledecky, who last lost a 1500 meter race in 2010, led the field of eight who advanced to Wednesday’s 1500 meter final.
Simona Quadarella from Italy and Anastasiia Kirpichnikova from France finished second and third respectively.
After earning a bronze medal in the 400 meter freestyle, the shortest individual event Ledecky will swim in Paris, the Stone Ridge graduate will attempt to add to her total of 7 career gold medals in her marquee distance events, starting with the 1500 meter final Wednesday.
