Katie Ledecky cruised to the top time in the women’s 800 meter freestyle prelims Friday, earning the top seed in Saturday’s final.
Ledecky, who holds the World and Olympic records in the event, finished first with a time of 8:16.62. According to SwimSwam News, it was the 53rd fastest time of Ledecky’s career, but still more than enough to earn her the top seed.
Another American, Paige Madden, finished second with an 8:18.48. The swim made Madden the fifth fastest American of all time in the event.
The final is scheduled to take place Saturday at 3:28 p.m. ET.
