Katie Ledecky clinched a spot in her fourth Olympics at the U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials in Indianapolis Saturday night. The seven-time gold medalist from Bethesda easily won the 400 meter freestyle – not considered her strongest event – in a time of 3:58:35.
“I walked out of this tunnel tonight and just took a look around and just enjoyed the moment,” Ledecky told NBC Sports. “We’ve come a long way and it’s really great that you all came out to support us,” she told the 20,689 in attendance at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts. It’s the largest crowd ever for a swim meet including Olympic competition.
