Keeping Up With Katie: Ledecky Awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom

Katie Ledecky is among 19 recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Friday.

President Joe Biden named the seven-time Olympic gold medal winner and Bethesda native as one of the awardees of “the Nation’s highest civilian honor.”

“Katie Ledecky is the most decorated female swimmer in history,” reads a statement from The White House on Friday. “An athletic prodigy, she has won seven Olympic gold medals and twenty-one world championship gold medals so far. She will continue to compete for the Nation who watches her in awe.”

Biden presented the awards late afternoon Friday. The White House livestreamed the event on YouTube.

Other awardees include former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former Vice President Al Gore, educator and activist Opal Lee, 52nd Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and actress Michelle Yeoh.
