Bethesda native Katie Ledecky won the ESPY award for best athlete in women’s sports Wednesday night. Ledecky won two gold and two silver medals at the Tokyo Games in 2021 which brought her career total to 10 Olympic medals. She was presented the trophy by Maybelle Blair, 95, a member of the All-American Girls Professional League that was portrayed in the movie, A League of Their Own.
The ESPY Awards is an annual celebration of sports produced and televised by ESPN. Last night’s show aired on ABC and was hosted by NBA superstar Stephen Curry.
“To all of the young athletes out there, … find something that you really love, that you’re good at, that can be a positive force in our world.”
