One of the highlights of Kensington’s annual calendar celebrates the hometown with a call to artists to literally paint the town. It’s not unusual to see easels set up all over town on the Friday and Saturday before Labor Day.
The event dubbed a “plein air competition” enjoys a long tradition in Kensington. This year it marked the 70th anniversary of the Montgomery Art Association which sponsors the activity open to artists of all ages.
MCM recently dropped by the Kensington Armory and captured some of the artwork on display.
“For the Love of Kensington” will feature artwork entered in the contest over the years at the Compass Art Center through Sept. 28. The juried exhibition will hold an Artists Reception on Friday, Sept. 13 from 7-9 p.m. The Center is located at 10335 Kensington Parkway.
