Katja Bullock of Kensington, who served in the White House Personnel Office during three presidential administrations, has died. She was born in Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1965.
“Katja’s life story truly is the story of the American Dream—a story of perseverance, hope, and endless possibilities. Her journey from Germany to the State House and the White House should be an inspiration to us all,” former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan posted on Facebook.
“Katja will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched and the many careers she helped shape. May she rest in peace,” Hogan posted.
Her job in the White House enabled her to be involved in the presidential appointment process. She helped establish the Coalition Provisional Authority government in Iraq in 2002.
Bullock, 80, also served in Hogan’s transition team and was a senior advisor in his appointments office.
Since 1976, Bullock had been a volunteer or staff member under former Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W Bush and Donald Trump.
She was a Montgomery County coordinator and transition staff member for Mitt Romney and a county coordinator for Robert Ehrlich’s successful bid for Maryland governor.
Ehrlich posted, “Katja Bullock was my treasured friend, confidante & mentor for 40 years. She defined “unconditional love” & defied the notion that you can’t have a friend in politics.”
Katja Bullock was my treasured friend, confidante & mentor for 40 years. She defined “unconditional love” & defied the notion that you can’t have a friend in politics. Her lauded career in Republican politics was only outshined by her tremendous heart.
