Labor Day 2024: What’s Open, What’s Closed

Montgomery County Government Holiday Schedule

Here’s the holiday schedule for the Labor Day holiday, Monday, Sept. 2:

  • County Offices – Closed.
  • MC 311 – Closed.
  • State offices and courts – Closed.
  • State Motor Vehicle Administration offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations – Closed.
  • Libraries – Closed on Sunday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 2.
  • County Alcohol Beverage Services – All stores open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Department of Permitting Services – Closed.
  • Ride On bus service – Will operate on a Sunday schedule. All schedules may be viewed online at rideonbus.com
  • Ride On extRa and Flex bus services – Not in service
  • Ride On Flash bus service– The Orange Route will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule. The Blue Route will not be in service.
  • MARC Train and Commuter Bus – No trains operating.
  • Metrorail – Will operate on a Sunday holiday schedule, with service from 7 a.m. to midnight. The information is available at www.wmata.com
  • Metrobus – Will operate on a Sunday service schedule.
  • Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters – Free.
  • County-provided trash and recycling collections will not be made on Labor Day, Sept. 2. Collections will slide one day during the week, with the last pickup on Saturday, Sept. 7.
  • Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center — Closed.
  • County outdoor pools–Open.
  • Recreation, Senior and Indoor Aquatic Centers–Closed.
  • Montgomery Parks — Visit MontgomeryParks.org.

City of Gaithersburg Holiday Schedule

Most city facilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.

  • The Miniature Golf Course will open from noon to 6 p.m.
  • The Water Park will open from noon to 5 p.m. for City of Gaithersburg residents and aquatics members only.
  • The Skate Park will open from noon to 6 p.m.
  • The Interactive Water Feature at Olde Towne Plaza will open from noon to 7 p.m.
  • The Community Museum will open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Police Department Administrative Offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • The regular Mayor and City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
  • The collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Monday, Sept. 2, will be collected the preceding Saturday, Aug. 31. On-demand bulk pick up for residents whose regular recycling day is Monday, Sept. 2, will be unavailable.

City of Rockville Holiday Schedule

Most city facilities will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.

  • City Hall – closed.
  • Lincoln Park, Thomas Farm and Twinbrook community centers – closed.
  • Rockville Senior Center – closed.
  • Croydon Creek Nature Center – closed.
  • Glenview Mansion and F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre – closed.
  • Rockville Skate Park – closed.
  • Rockville Swim and Fitness Center will be open. The outdoor recreation pool is closed for renovations. The outdoor fitness pool will have recreation swim hours over the holiday weekend. For individual swim and fitness center facility hours, visit www.rockvillemd.gov/swimcenter.
