Legalization of Marijuana is on November Ballot

When Marylanders vote in the upcoming Gubernatorial Election in November, they will be asked whether to make it legal for anyone 21 years or older to use marijuana. The ballot question encompasses the use, distribution, regulation, and taxation in the state.

The ballot question reads, “Do you favor the legalization of the use of cannabis by an individual who is at least 21 years of age on or after July 1, 2023, in the State of Maryland?

Currently, marijuana is legal for medicinal use only. Possession of more than 10 grams is a criminal offense in Maryland.

Montgomery Council President Gabe Albornoz said the County Council has not yet taken a stand. “We will be looking at all the ballot questions in the coming months,” he said, adding the marijuana question “is one of many.”

Trulieve Medical Cannabis Dispensary on Rockville Pike gave the legislative committee in Annapolis working on this issue the largest contribution it received. The dispensary contributed $50,000, according to Ballotpedia.

Currently, 19 states and Washington, D.C., have legalized the possession and personal use of marijuana for recreational purposes.
