The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) has opened sign-up’s to participate in the annual Light the Night event scheduled for October 2-9, 2022.
The event was created in 2017 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Foundation and National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Since then, fire departments and residential homes alike light their homes up with the color red to show respect for the families of those who have fallen in the line of duty.
The NFFF recommends participants plan ahead and test their equipment before the actual event. Red spotlights or specialized red filters are some of the ways to achieve the desired illumination.
Participants should sign-up with the NFFF to be added to the official Light the Night event map. The NFFF encourages participants to share their events with their surrounding community through social media, community news letters, or by contacting their local news.
The Foundation will share the stories and photos of participating residences with the families of fallen firefighters to show how their loved ones have been honored. Email participation plans and photos to dclark@firehero.org, or share on social media with #nffflightthenight2022.
