Fire and rescue personnel responded to an attic fire Monday after lightning struck a home in the 14800 block of Braemar Crescent Way, Darnestown.
The fire broke out around 5 p.m. amid heavy storms. Pete Piringer, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) spokesman, confirmed that the four adult occupants safely evacuated the home with no injuries reported. The family has been displaced after the structure was deemed unsafe to occupy.
A video posted by Piringer on X shows smoke billowing from a gaping hole in the roof of the house caused by the lightning strike.
The storms caused widespread damage across the county. The Emergency Communications Center dispatched over 100 calls for storm-related services from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., including reports of lightning strikes, fallen wires and trees, blocked roads, and power outages.
