A recall has been issued for fresh products in all Maryland Wegmans stores due to a Listeria outbreak, according to federal food inspectors.
Fresh Fruit Up, Inc. voluntarily issued a recall for fresh-cut produce and ready-to-eat dips due to the risk of exposure to bacteria known as Listeria.
The bacteria cause infections in individuals that typically go unnoticed, but can produce serious illness in high-risk individuals, such as children, seniors, pregnant people, and those with compromised immune systems.
Symptoms of Listeria infection include a stiff neck, fever, headache, confusion, convulsions, and a loss of balance. Miscarriages or birth defects can also occur in pregnancies affected by Listeria. People experiencing symptoms should contact their doctor.
The affected fruit and vegetable products were in clear plastic containers with “Best if Used By” dates between March 5, 2022, and March 23, 2022, according to the FDA. The ready-to-eat dips were in clear plastic 7 oz. containers, with “Best if Used By” dates between March 15, 2022 – March 31, 2022.
The products cited were processed in Fresh Fruit Up, Inc.’s Lepew, NY facility and distributed throughout New York and surrounding states.
