On Monday, Nov. 24, the County Council’s Parks, Housing and Planning Committee met with the County Parks and Planning Commission to outline two plans for traffic management for the River Road to Bethesda roadway known as Little Falls Parkway. Pedestrian and cyclist safety, preservation of existing stream beds and accommodations for emergency vehicles were among the many issues under consideration. Here are some excerpts from the nearly two-hour meeting.
Spokesperson for the Neighborhood Coalition for Little Falls Parkway Carl Becker attended the meeting and offered the following statement regarding the current recommendation to the County Council:
“The Coalition much prefers Plan B because returning to a divided roadway with tree lined median is a priority. We hope the Council will agree to retain pavement between Hillandale and Dorset because slated development in Friendship Heights, Downtown Bethesda and Westbard will increase traffic on Little Falls Parkway, and because the northbound merge lane and right turn lane designs are dangerous and improperly designed.”
