Local Politicians Weigh In on Presidential Debate

Local political leaders weighed in on the first presidential debate for this year’s election between current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

“Yes, President Biden stumbled last night. It was tough to watch,” County Councilmember Evan Glass (D) wrote on X.

“But let’s refocus on the other guy, a convicted felon who lied about nearly everything.”

“On tonight’s debate stage, it will be clear that [Joe Biden] is fighting for our freedoms, and Donald Trump is only fighting for his own,” wrote Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D).

“Last night the world got to see the real Joe Biden that conservatives have been seeing for many months,” Reardon Sullivan (R), former chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Central Committee, wrote in a statement to MCM.

“The man who aspires to the be the leader of our great nation has lost his cognitive ability evidenced by his failure to remember critical facts and lack of concentration which will result in the inability to make important decisions that will affect our County.”

“I feel sorry for Joe Biden and his current condition.  However, this is indicative of the current state of the Democrat party – lost. If Biden stays on the ticket, I and confident that the Republicans will not only win the Presidency, but the House and the Senate,” Sullivan stated.

“The contrast could not be more stark,” State Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins (D) wrote on X. “Trump lied every single time he opened his mouth. He refused to say that he would accept the results of the election. He wants to be a dictator.”

“America, this is exactly why you fired the guy four years ago,” wrote State Delegate Joe Vogel (D).

“Inspired by President Biden, a uniter,” County Councilmember Natali Fani-González (D) wrote. “I am an immigrant. Naturalized American citizen. I am so grateful to live in the United States of America. The best nation in this world. I know President Biden will continue to protect our Freedom and Democracy.”
