Monday night at Capital One Arena in front of 20,000 adoring fans, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band did what they do best: jam. For almost three-hours, the relentless band of rockers comprised largely of septuagenarians served up one crowd favorite after another including Born to Run, Thunder Road and Rosalita.
Guitarist Nils Lofgren, 71, is in his 40th year as a member of the band that was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. He grew up in Bethesda attending Walter Johnson High School where he was a gymnast. Before joining the E Street Band in 1984, Lofgren was a member of Crazy Horse with Neil Young, fronted Grin then became a solo artist.
In 1978, Lofgren wrote and sang Bullets Fever, an homage to the Washington Bullets who won the NBA championship that year.
