Several restaurants and approximately 300 people were evacuated Friday evening due to a major gas leak according to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue. The gas leak at Norfolk Avenue and Cordell Avenue, happened around 7:30 p.m. Norfolk Avenue was closed between Delray Avenue and St. Elmo Avenue.
Multiple restaurants including outdoor seating areas and stores were evacuated as a precaution.
The gas company was on the scene evaluating high meter readings and looking for source of gas leak according to MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer. There was no fire and no injuries were reported.
