Police said a man was arrested and charged in a rape that occurred more than 23 years ago following a DNA match.
James Lorenzo Greene, 47, of Prince George’s (PG) County, was arrested Wednesday for the crime that occurred in Montgomery Village in 2000, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
According to police, in July 2000 two victims were walking along Montgomery Village Avenue at about 1:55 a.m. and were approached by a suspect — later identified as Greene — who was armed with a handgun.
Greene allegedly robbed them of property and raped one of the victims, police stated.
According to police, cold case detectives submitted evidence from the crime scene to a laboratory and a DNA profile was extracted and matched to Greene.
Cold case detectives got an arrest warrant charging Greene with first-degree rape, armed robbery and first-degree assault, per MCPD. He was arrested Wednesday at his home in P.G. County.
Police believe there may be more victims of Greene. Detectives ask anyone who believes they may have been a victim to contact the MCPD Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
