Police said a man was charged with false imprisonment after a standoff outside an apartment complex in Germantown on Sunday.
Marques Buford, 49, of Germantown is being held without bond, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.
Police responded to Silvergate Way on Sunday morning. A woman made an emergency call saying her husband would not let her leave their home.
According to police, Buford had reportedly made threats toward police if they tried to go into the apartment, and an address check showed his “history of dangerous behavior.”
Police stated officers encountered Buford outside, armed with a large butcher knife. Officers tried to use “less-lethal” force but Buford was wearing layers of clothes and a paintball mask so it did not have an effect, according to police.
According to police, an Emergency Response Team was initiated and SWAT was nearby. Officers including a trained negotiator worked to de-escalate the situation.
Buford was apprehended as he tried to run away, according to police. There was no injury to any officers or Buford.
