Police said a Silver Spring man has been charged with home invasion and assaults over the past week targeting elderly women in Burtonsville and White Oak.

Devin Jones, 34, is charged with home invasion, attempted first-degree rape, first-degree assault, indecent exposure, second-degree assault, and theft, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Last Saturday an 88-year-old woman in the 3700 block of Greencastle Road reported that a man forced his way into her home, physically assaulted her and tried to sexually assault her before stealing an item and leaving. Two days later on Monday, a 77-year-old woman in the 1500 block of November Circle reported that a male suspect came into her bedroom and exposed himself. She fought back and tried to call the police but he took her phone before leaving.

Detectives, with help from the police department’s Forensic Science Evidence Management Division, identified Jones as the suspect in both crimes. He was apprehended around Stewart Lane and Lockwood Drive in White Oak. He had items belonging to both victims upon his arrest.

Police said detectives are investigating additional burglaries that might be linked to Jones.
