Man Dies After Being Shot by Police in Silver Spring Apartment

Wednesday night at approximately 11:40 p.m. Montgomery County Police (MCPD) responded to an emergency call from the 3300 block of Hampton Point Drive in Silver Spring.

According to the press release from MCPD they determined an adult male was inside the residence there with his mother. While the 3rd District officers were responding to the call, gunshots were heard coming from the apartment.

At that point, MCPD initiated an emergency response (ERT) and a SWAT team was called to the location.

Negotiations with the adult male, who reportedly had a gun, and patrol officers continued with the ERT. When the decision was made to enter the apartment, the SWAT team “engaged the subject, and he was shot by officers” according to police.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting will be handed over to the Maryland Attorney General for independent investigation, per Maryland law.
