The man accused of stabbing two victims in Rockville in September was found guilty this week.
32-year-old Scorpio Alexander Stanfield was found guilty of second-degree murder for the death of 35-year-old Jonathan Lawrence Moore of Silver Spring. He also was convicted by a separate jury of first-degree assault for the stabbing of another man.
According to charging documents, both stabbings happened shortly before 10 p.m. September 3, 2022, on Hungerford Drive in Rockville. When officers arrived, they found a man who was stabbed and described Stanfield as his attacker. Officers later located Stanfield about 2 blocks away and arrested him. But while investigating, officers discovered another man suffering a stab wound in his car. That victim was identified as Moore and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The trials were prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Lauren Turner and Gave Carrera. Standfield faces 40 years in prison for the murder charge and 25 years for the assault charge. Sentencing is scheduled for August 22.
