Police said a Silver Spring man has been indicted by a grand jury on charges related to a fatal Rockville street racing crash.
The charges stem from a collision last year in which 28-year-old Romario Coke of Silver Spring was pronounced dead at the scene.
Aaron Givens, 33, turned himself in to police about two weeks ago on March 4 on a warrant charging him with negligent homicide by vehicle, criminally negligent manslaughter by vehicle and driving a vehicle in a race/speed contest, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD). He was released on an unsecured personal bond, police stated.
According to police, on Jan. 17, 2023, officers and fire and rescue responded to West Gude Drive and Watkins Pond Boulevard in Rockville for a collision. Initial investigation showed Coke was driving an Infiniti Q50 going eastbound on West Gude Drive at high speed. Police said he lost control and crashed into a tree in the center median. Further investigation found Coke was racing with Givens, who was driving a Ram 1500 TRX pickup.
