On Friday, March 26, at approximately 9:48 p.m., Takoma Park Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to the report of a serious collision involving a dirt bike.
An initial investigation determined that a Honda CRF 250R dirt bike was traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue approaching Glenside Drive. A 2017 Hyundai Sonata was traveling north on New Hampshire Avenue and was attempting to turn left onto Glenside Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the dirt bike and the Sonata collided in the intersection.
The driver of the dirt bike, Derlin Samuel Santos Dubon, age 23, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Niya Lawrence, age 26, was behind the wheel of the Hyundai Sonata when the collision occurred. She was not injured in the collision. A male passenger in the Sonata was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Tacoma Park Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
