A man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for stabbing and killing a man in Rockville more than three years ago.
Jaime Havier Lee, 43, of an unconfirmed address, was sentenced Friday to 40 years in prison, with all but 28 years suspended, plus five years supervised probation after release, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office (MCSAO).
Lee was convicted of second-degree murder in May for fatally stabbing 36-year-old Cornelius Lyon in 2020.
According to MCSAO, on May 2, 2020, police officers responded to the 100 block of Frederick Avenue in Rockville. There, Lyon was dead on the ground. Per MCSAO, Lee stabbed Lyon in a nearby apartment in the 700 block of Lenmore Avenue and witnesses said Lyon walked to the area trying to get help.
Witnesses said a group of men was in the apartment and a fight started over $20.
Lee and Lyon were involved in a verbal argument that escalated to Lee stabbing Lyon in multiple places, according to MCSAO.
Multiple people fled the apartment, including both men. Police found Lee shortly after in the area.
