Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of entertainment in Montgomery County. Here are 9 things to do this weekend, March 1-3.

Friday, March 1

Classic Family Movie Night:  The Gaithersburg Arts Barn screens the classic Mary Poppins Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Movie is recommended for all ages. Seven Pillars Presents Sandbox Percussion: Andy Akiho’s Seven Pillars is performed by Sandbox Percussion Friday, March 1 at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center. The performance consists of seven ensemble movements and one solo movement for each member of the Sandbox. Tickets start at $15. This performance features strobe lights, and could potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. Ice Skating: Wheaton Ice Arena is one of two indoor skating facilities in Montgomery Parks. Public skating sessions are open seven days a week during the winter, find the full schedule here. Also, ice skating and ice hockey classes and camps are offered for all ages and skill levels. Sunday public skating hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 3 to 5 p.m. The rink is located at 11717 Orebaugh Avenue in Wheaton. General admission fees start at $5. Saturday, March 2

Irish Dance Performance: Enjoy this performance by The Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. at the Davis Library. Appropriate for all ages. Free. Davis Library is located at 6400 Democracy Boulevard in Bethesda. For more information, click here.

MoComCon: Celebrate all things fandom, comic, super heroes and fun at the eighth annual Montgomery County Comic Convention (MoComCon). The convention includes activities, workshops, crafts, displays, exhibits and cosplay for all ages.  Saturday, Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both the Germantown Library and the BlackRock Center for the Arts. Libraries’ Annual MoComCon Rescheduled for March 2

Hike Club: Join Montgomery Parks at Black Hill Discovery Center for a family-friendly hike. All ages are welcome. Young children must be able to walk at least three miles or be carried. Most trails are easy to moderate in difficulty. Fee is $2 and registration is required. This hike takes place Saturday, March 2 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds. Sunday, March 3

Cultural Heritage Concert Series: The county hosts a series of four concerts during February to promote an understanding of diverse cultures. Today’s concert features Irish American & Greek American performers and takes place at the Gwendolyn E. Coffield Community Recreation Center Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. Performing Artists: Jody Marshall and Melos (Spyros Koliavasilis and Niko Mitreone). Free and appropriate for all ages. The Monster at the End of this Play:  This is the ninth season of InterAct’s public performing arts series for kids and families. “The Monster at the End of this Play” is performed by Sculpted Clay Production with two performances this weekend. Plan to go on Saturday March 2 at 11 a.m. or Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. at Highland Elementary School in Wheaton. Free, no tickets or registration required. For more information, click here.

Garden Explorers: Children ages 6 to 8 are invited to take a walk through Brookside Gardens with an instructor to explore the gardens. The event takes place Sunday, March 3 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. The fee is $7 and registration is required. Brookside Gardens is located 1800 Glenallan Avenue in Wheaton.
