Friday, March 22

NextGen 11.0 Art Exhibit: VisArts in Rockville’s annual exhibit showcases next generation aspiring artists, ages 17 to 27, from the Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC area. The exhibit opens Friday, March 22 and runs through May 12 in the Gibbs Street Gallery. Free. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Thursday from noon to 4 p.m., Friday from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. VisArts is located at 155 Gibbs Street, an easy walk from the Rockville Metro station. Healing Eco-Poetry Workshop: Sandy Spring Museum’s Dreams of Earth Renewal exhibit by visual artist and poet Neha Misra is on display from now through April 14. The exhibit highlights the role of immigrant art and cultural heritage in healing people and the planet. Friday, March 22 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Misra leads a poetry workshop at the museum. She will guide participants through writing prompts and exercises to create poetry exploring personal connections to nature. $25 fee. The museum is located at 17901 Bentley Road in Sandy Spring. Full Moon Friday: Locust Grove Nature Center staff leads a hike and campfire Friday, March 22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  The hike will be about a half mile on a natural surface trail. Ages 10 and up. All attendees must register. Fee is $8. The nature center is located at 7777 Democracy Boulevard in Bethesda. Learn more and register here.

Saturday, March 23

Kensington Parkrun: Looking for a way to increase your activity and meet some new neighbors? Kensington parkrun is a free, fun, and friendly weekly 5K community event that takes place every Saturday at 9 a.m. Before attending your first parkrun, review the information on the Parkrun website here and register here. This is entirely organized by volunteers, email kensington@parkrun.com to help.

Spring Eye Spy Trains: Montgomery Parks two miniature trains open Saturday, March 23 with a spring-theme. Each rider is given an “Eye Spy” card with items to look for during the ride. The miniature trains run through Cabin John Regional Park and Wheaton Regional Park. The $5 spring rides are offered March 23-31 and weekends in April. For more information, click here.

A Salsa Cinderella Fairytale: Imagination Stage in Bethesda presents this bilingual Cinderella tale with a twist. The musical breaks new ground in bilingual children’s theater. The show continues through April 7. Tickets start at $12. Click here to find more information and purchase tickets.

Sunday, March 24

Family Skate with MCPD: The Montgomery County Police Department hosts a morning of ice skating with officers, music and food Sunday, March 24 at 9 a.m. at the Wheaton Ice Arena. Free. Reservation requested. The Wheaton Ice Arena is located at 11717 Orebaugh Avenue in Wheaton. RSVP here.

Crochet 4 Change:   The nonprofit Crochet 4 Change holds monthly sessions to create sleeping mats for unhoused residents at the Germantown Library. Sunday, March 24, join members of the nonprofit from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. to learn to crochet with recycled plastic bags. Instruction and materials will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own plastic bags to reuse and recycle. Free, registration is not necessary. SSL hours are available for students. Glenview Mansion Wedding and Special Events Expo: Rockville’s annual wedding and events expo takes place Sunday, March 24 from 1-4 p.m. at the Glenview Mansion.  Learn about renting the Glenview Mansion and talk with more than 30 wedding vendors.
