Maryland hunters harvested 20,592 deer during the early portion of the 2024 archery and muzzleloader seasons, which is a 24% increase from last year’s count of 16,631 deer.
There was a 6.4% increase in harvested deer in Montgomery County. Hunters harvested 995 deer this year and 935 during 2023, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
Of those, 371 were antlered and 624 were antlerless.
Statewide during the two-month harvest, 12,281 deer were taken during the archery season and 8,144 harvested during the muzzleloader season. Another 167 deer were reported killed during managed hunts.
