Maryland Lottery and Gaming Market Contributes $1.585 Billion to State in FY2024

Maryland’s lottery and gaming market continued its strong performance this year, contributing $1.585 billion to the state from July 1, 2023 through June 30. The total includes the state’s casinos, sportsbooks and daily fantasy sports operators.

The total is Maryland Lottery and Gaming’s second-largest single-year transfer to the state, second to the $1.589 billion contributed in 2023.

“We had an exceptional performance in Fiscal Year 2023, so we came into FY2024 facing a challenging year-over-year comparison,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin in a press release. “Nonetheless, we had another strong year on a number of fronts. The Lottery added a new daily game, and the sports wagering market continued to expand. We’re proud of our role in generating funds for important state programs.”

Maryland’s sports wagering market contributed $6,254,056 to the state’s education fund, from a total handle of $333,269,669. This represents the fourth-best single-month contribution since the beginning of sports wagering in Maryland, according to Maryland Lottery and Gaming.

Sports wagering contributions go to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which was passed by the Maryland General Assembly in 2021. The Blueprint aims to “transform public education in the state into a world-class education system,” according to the Maryland Department of Education

Over the next decade, the Blueprint plans to increase state funding for education, enhance student experiences and accelerate academic outcomes. Contributions from Maryland’s sports betting market support improving the overall quality of education for all children in Maryland, especially those who have been historically underserved.
