With the first full month of legal recreational marijuana in the books, many Marylanders spent a pretty penny at the dispensary.
According to new data from the Maryland Cannabis Administration, revenue has been robust with dispensaries bringing in $87.4 million in medical and recreational sales.
July’s revenue doubles the amount from June when medical cannabis was the only option. Maryland legalized recreational marijuana on July 1.
The Maryland Cannabis Administration released a chart detailing and categorizing the total cannabis revenue in July. Most of the revenue came from cannabis flowers and concentrates, with flowers netting $51 million and concentrates earning $22 million.
“Governor Moore is committed to writing a new chapter in the story of cannabis in Maryland—a chapter focused on equity and economic growth. Revenue collected from cannabis sales will fund critical priorities across our state, and will directly benefit communities that have been disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs,” Carter Elliott, Spokesperson for Governor Moore, said in a statement.
Any Maryland resident over 21 with a valid government ID can legally purchase and possess cannabis products from registered dispensaries in Maryland.
