Maryland ranked 12th nationally in an updated report on the safest states during the COVID-19 pandemic, released by the personal finance website WalletHub.
To identify which states are taking the most important steps to keep residents safe during the pandemic, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia on five key metrics. The data analyzed and ranked include the rate of vaccination, positive testing, hospitalization, deaths, and estimated transmission. The data examined roughly covers the past two weeks.
A graph showing the rankings for vaccination rate and deaths demonstrate the correlation between the two metrics. Those states with the lowest death rates and the highest vaccination rates are colored green in the graph below.
Note: Rank 1 on the “COVID-19 Death Rate Ranking” means fewest deaths in the state between June 17, 2021 and June 23, 2021 and Rank 1 for “Vaccination Rate Ranking” means the highest share of the population age 12 and older with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination.
In the report, Virginia is ranked 16 and the District of Columbia is number 14.
