Maryland Ranks Fourth-Best for Working From Home

Maryland ranks as the fourth-best state for working from home according to a new study.

WalletHub, a finance website, released the study ‘Best States for Working from Home’ on Monday.

Maryland received a score of 63.59 out of 100, based on 12 measurements that were categorized into work environment and living environment. The study compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia, assigning each a weighted score.

Factors considered in the work environment category include the percentage of people currently working from home, the number of people working in occupations conducive to telecommuting, the percentage of households with access to internet services, and the number of internet crime victims per capita.

The top five states for telecommuters are New Jersey, Utah, Delaware, Maryland, and the District of Columbia (D.C.). The states with the least favorable conditions for working from home are South Dakota, Wyoming, Arkansas, Montana, and Alaska.

The data used in this study were collected from U.S. Census Bureau, Global Workplace Analytics, HighSpeedInternet.com, Internet Crime Complaint Center, Wakefield Research, U.S. Energy Information Administration, BroadbandNow, Allconnect, American Home Shield Corporation and Zillow.
