Masai Russell, a 24-year-old Bullis School graduate, took gold in the 100 meter hurdles Saturday, edging out France’s Cyréna Samba-Mayela by one-hundredth of a second.
Russell, born in Potomac, came into the race as one of the favorites before turning in the stunning performance that won gold.

A former University of Kentucky star, Russell held the fourth fastest 100 meter hurdles time in history coming into her first Olympic Games. She is also the NCAA record holder in the event.
Russell was out towards the front of the field and a final surge secured her victory.
