Maury Povich announced that he is retiring from his daily talk-show after 31 years.
“I’m so proud of my relationship with NBC Universal and all those who worked on the ‘Maury’ show but as I occasionally tell my guests on ‘Maury,’ enough already,” he said.
The final broadcast of “Maury” will air in September but the show is expected to live on in re-runs. Povich is the longest-running daytime talk show host on television.
Povich, 83, grew up in Montgomery County graduating from Landon School. For years, he worked at WTTG-TV hosting the Ten O’Clock News and Panorama. In 1986, he started “A Current Affair” then in 1991, “The Maury Povich Show” debuted which morphed into”Maury”, a tabloid talk show known for using paternity tests to identify whether a man is the father of a baby and lie detector tests to determine if spouses are cheating.
Povich’s wife of almost 40 years, television veteran Connie Chung, is an alum of Blair High School.
