Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of entertainment in Montgomery County. Here are 9 things to do this weekend, May 17-19.

Friday, May 17

Community Unity Event: The county recreation hosts this event for UpCounty residents to learn about resources. Essential items including clothing, household groceries and hygiene products will be distributed. The event takes place a the Plum Gar Community Recreation Center gym from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center is located at 19561 Scenery Drive in Germantown. Cars & Cones: The Family Room in Laytonsville is more than just a local store, it is a gathering place with events planned throughout the year. Friday is opening night for the Cars & Cones events. There will be classic cars, bikes and trucks to see while enjoying ice cream and oldies music from 5 to 8 p.m. The Family Room is located at 6820 Olney Laytonsville Road. Roller Disco: Montgomery Parks will hold its second annual Roller Disco on Friday, May 17 at Ridge Road Park in Germantown from 6 to 8 p.m. The event includes skating, a live DJ and snow cones for purchase. Admission is free, but there will not be any skates available for rental. Ridge Ridge Road Recreational Park is located at 21155 Frederick Road in Germantown. For more information, click here.

Saturday, May 18

Gaithersburg Book Festival: The annual book festival takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bohrer Park. There will be author presentations, writing workshops, and of course, book signings. MCM is a proud sponsor of the festival. Stop by our tent to say hello! International Food Truck Festival: Student Global Ambassador Program (SGAP) Leaders will host an international food festival in Rockville Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. There will be food trucks representing different cultures and cuisines. Part of the proceeds go to the Melanoma Research Alliance. The event takes place in the Rockville United Church parking lot at 355 Linthicum Street.

International Food Festival Coming to Rockville

MoCo Youth Media Festival: The festival features works by young filmmakers and artists in the region and marks the 15th festival. This year’s festival will include a special tribute to founder, Richard Jaeggi and takes place Saturday, May 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the AFI Silver Theatre. Free. Sunday, May 19

Chevy Chase Spring Festival: This community event features activities for all ages including arts and crafts, inflatables, face art, food trucks, and music Sunday, May 19 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Jane E. Lawton Community Recreation Center. Free. Find information here. The center is located at 4301 Willow Lane in Chevy Chase.

Cultural Heritage Concert Series: The county hosts a series of four concerts during May to promote an understanding of diverse cultures. Today’s concert features performing artists Chao Tian and Seth Kibel & Sean Lane and takes place at the Plum Gar Community Recreation Center Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. Free and appropriate for all ages. Third Annual Crossroads Community Food Fair: Enjoy a variety of sweet and savory eats and drinks from more than 15 local food businesses. Come for the food, stay for live music with Mr. Gabe and a steel drum band, and enjoy free face painting. The fair takes place Sunday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Laurel Avenue and Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park.  Rain or shine. Find more information here.
