The Department of Transportation will host a public meeting to update the community on recent progress made on the McComas Avenue Neighborhood Greenway project in Wheaton.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Kentmont Clubhouse, at 2900 Faulkner Pl. Additionally, there is a zoom option for the meeting for those who wish to attend virtually. The public will be able to ask questions and provide comments.
The project aims to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety on McComas Avenue. The project runs from St. Paul Street to Georgia Avenue, including portions of Douglas Avenue and Windham Lane.
Greenways are streets with lower vehicle volumes and slower speeds, according to Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT). Greenways are designed to give pedestrians and bicyclists priority, using signs and pavement markings to discourage unsafe driving.
Greenways can reduce traffic by using traffic diverters at key intersections, roundabouts, shared lane markings or improved crosswalks. Additionally, the roads can be made more accessible for bicyclists by adding guiding signs.
Online registration is required to attend. More information on the project is available on the project’s website. Questions and comments can be submitted online.
